Daily Life at The Old Vicarage

Life at The Old Vicarage is shaped around familiarity and the small details that help residents feel at home. Our care home is based in Clay Cross and offers a welcoming environment where daily life is supported by thoughtful surroundings, a friendly team and a varied programme of activities.

With 44 bedrooms, multiple dining rooms and a range of shared spaces, our home has been designed to support both independence and companionship. Residents can enjoy quiet time in their own room, spend time with others in the communal areas, or take a trip out into the local community using our in-house minibus.

We were also the CHA winner of the ‘Best For Indoor or Outdoor Communal Spaces’ award in 2025 and take great pride in ensuring our home away from home helps residents feel fulfilled and valued around the clock.

Our Bedrooms

Our home boasts 44 beautiful bedrooms, giving residents private and personal spaces to make their own. Each room provides an important sense of comfort and routine, with space to rest and keep familiar belongings close by.

Bedrooms play an important role in helping residents feel settled from the moment they move in. Each room is fully furnished with armchairs, desks and ample storage spaces, and is arranged in a way that feels calm and easy to navigate.

Dining

Dining at The Old Vicarage is designed to be a pleasant experience that residents look forward to, with multiple dining rooms that offer a comfortable and sociable atmosphere. Mealtimes are also used as an opportunity to bring a little variety into daily life, including special dining experiences that celebrate international days.

We place importance on making dining feel unhurried and enjoyable. Our purpose-built environment gives residents a choice in where they spend their meals, whether that means sharing the dining experience with like-minded individuals or enjoying a quieter pace in a more private space.

Residents can enjoy a mix of familiar favourites and opportunities to explore new interests, including scrapbook club, bingo nights, reading club, pet therapy, sing-along sessions, baking club and knit and natter.

Our activities coordinators design our weekly program to support different interests and abilities, while also encouraging routine and gentle social connection. Some activities are lively and interactive, while others offer a calmer pace, which gives residents full choice in how they like to spend their time.

Garden Spaces

The gardens at our Chesterfield care home offer a peaceful outdoor setting that residents can enjoy throughout the year. With sensory gardens, an aviary and shaded patio seating, the outdoor spaces have been designed to feel calming and easy to spend time in.

Our gardens give residents the chance to enjoy fresh air and enjoy the sweeping countryside views. For our more green-fingered residents, we also have a regular gardening club with raised planters for them to get involved in.
